A self-taught artist, Ken Smith’s love of woodturning began in 1990 when his wife first bought him a lathe to encourage further development of his woodworking skills. His gift of wood crafting quickly became evident. As he fine-tuned and perfected his craft, he found a great talent in both wood turning and developing different methods and finishes for each of his pieces.
Ken enjoys the challenge of seeing the full potential of each piece of wood. His inspiration spurs from highlighting wood through unique designs and through sourcing wood pieces with burls, spaltings, and highly figured woods. Ken employs a number of techniques including hand-rubbed finishes, dowel and resin-cured work and meticulously layered finishes.
Ken Smith and his wife Chris live in the Franklin, TN area where both their home and woodworking shop are located.
